Western DecorThe American West is famous for its romanticism and if you wish to fill your home with this passion which is deeply related to myth and fantasy, all that you need to do is to take recourse to Western decor. This trend started when the pilgrims who had migrated to the New World found the East Coast to be getting very populated and as a result they moved towards the West Coast. Western decor is based on natural materials such as rock, wood, metal, and leather with wool, birch bark, beadwork, and antlers being in a secondary position. Moreover, Western decor can be classified into vintage, classic, kitschy or country. The best thing about Western decor is that it gives a very homely feeling. Basically, Western decor is based on the themes of nature and function. As such it utilizes natural materials, function, comfort, and simple colors. The furniture is mostly large scale, made of wood, and without any complicated details. Often pine and oak are mixed with log furniture, twig pieces and mission style furnishing. Honey colored wood, black metals and gray rock constitute the color schemes in a Western decor with accent colors being terra cotta, brick red, navy or forest green. Gray, cream and other tones are also used sometimes to be in consonance with a Western style wall hanging, rug or fabric. Western motifs can be of any of the following: cowboys, cattle, deer, bear, moose, fishing, mountains, pine trees, leaves, oaks, pine cones, acorns, horses, lakes, rivers, fishing, riding, hunting, wildflowers, grasses, etc. Western decor uses fabrics which are basically tough, tactile and textured. You can also consider fur, suede, denim, matte woven rugs, leather, wool tweeds, and saddle blankets. Although a few moderately shiny leathers can be used, most others are matte finished. For upholstered pieces and for furniture throws, soft chenille's and patterned tapestry fabrics are also liked by many people. Western decor is replete with older materials like vintage cracked leather ottomans, and weathered farm implements. A wagon wheel chandelier or reproduction antlers would give an authentic western feel along with a sense of the wild and the natural. Moreover, reproductive lighting can be very practical and affordable. The heart of Western decor is handcrafted log furniture with Western style kitchen tables, chairs, and even bedroom sets being made from the forest lumber. True western furniture believes in preserving naturally occurring knobs, curves, and imperfections in the wood. This is more so, because the western settlers of the 1800s had to rely more on resources provided by nature to build their homes. Western decor, when used in bedrooms, gives a cozy masculine feel. If you wish to create a truly personal space you should use a mix of Native American motifs, chambray, denim, and rough woolen blankets, or any of the other Western motifs. With Western decor you can give vent to all your creativity talents. You can also consider using horseshoe sconces, twig framed mirrors, dried flowers, vintage-fishing creels, and large baskets. You can create unique pillows with pieces of old jeans, quilts, or leather pieces cut into squares. You can also use colorful cotton bandanas as table napkins, curtain tiebacks, pillow covers, curtain tiebacks, and valances. Western decor utilizes wide plank flooring and recycled floorboards for floors which are generally made from hardwood. Low pile or flat woven styles or real or fake fur animal skins are used for area rugs. It can be dressed with functional iron fireplace tools or a decorative metalwork screen. Simple mantle accessories such as hurricane candle shades, a display of pinecones, or a rugged cast bronze sculpture of a cowboy on a horse can also be used. Simple and not overpowering window treatments should be used. You can consider using wooden shutters or blinds, flat roman shades, or simple curtain panels. For a soft glow in your Western decor you should use lampshades made of stretched rawhide or golden mica. Wooden or metal lamps and fixtures with feature designs and motifs bring about the Western mood. Copyright © homedecortricks.com All rights reserved. |
