Christmas Decorations

Christmas is that time of the year when the spirit of celebrations and Christmas decorations is omnipresent. Everybody is in the mood of decorating their houses with exotic lights and other multicolored decorative items. The lawns are spread with snow and the scintillating aroma of gingerbread cookies and chocolate cakes pervades the air. Sounds of carols and jiggling bells will follow you wherever you may be. There couldn’t be happier times with laughter everywhere.

It’s almost a magical atmosphere created by the expectant festive Christmas season when most people start Christmas decorations well ahead of the actual Christmas day as making all these preparations does take a lot of time and pre-planning. Moreover, if you want to give a unified look to your home, it might take even longer. Your real feelings about the Christmas festival and the holidays will get reflected in the way that you go about making the Christmas decorations.

It’s not the amount of money that you spend on Christmas decorations that really matters but it is your creativity and your love and warmth reflected in your personality that will give the personal touch to your decorations.

Most of us are in the habit of collecting a few ornaments throughout the year in order to use them for Christmas decorations. These homemade tidbits are not only cheap but they also give an individualistic touch, which is full of warm feelings. Thus, you can paint sponge stars or other shapes on your window and the way to do it is to add a small amount of liquid dish soap to acrylic craft paint and proceed with the painting. This can easily be washed off with a window cleaner and if you face a difficult spot, you should use a non-scratching dish scrubber.

You should avoid using items with colors matching the color of your tree as green Christmas decorations will lose their own importance in the background of the tree. You can make a shiny ornament by punching a design with holes in the top of aluminum can and gluing a decorative trim around the edges. You can hang this shiny ornament to enhance the beauty of your Christmas decorations either with a ribbon, or a yard or a dental floss.

Different sparkling ornaments for Christmas decorations can also be made from pipe cleaners and acrylic beads. These will look very impressive and can be made very easily by young and old alike. Various types of such craft items can be made to give a sparkling look to your Christmas decorations.

A great idea for Christmas decorations is the use of Poinsettias which should be bought in the bud stage and their flowers should be allowed to bloom so that the poinsettias maintain their beautiful look. There are many other ideas for Christmas decorations such as making garlands and miniature Christmas shapes like stockings, holly leaves and mittens out of felt scrap and stringing together with needles and then tying a knot on both the sides of the shape so that it stays in place.

The above shapes can be further improved by making two of each type and sewing them together after stuffing them. The stuffing can be of used dryer sheets or small fabric scraps that can not be used for any other purpose. Christmas decorations should also concentrate on those aspects that are associated with smell and the holiday season such as: cookies baking in the oven, the greens of the trees on the mantle, saucepan boiling with water, a crackling fire and the wonderfully inviting smell of cinnamon sticks and cloves.

Each person makes the Christmas decorations as per his/her choice and as such what you create is a true reflection of your taste, style and personality.
